A lot of people get hit by heartbreak and John Fitz, Solo Noi's lead singer, struggled to find a reason to keep on living after his partner departed this world. What saved him from the dark chasms that open up in such times were his friends, family and music music music. It took two years for him to get that the world moves on and you really can't make the river go back. The only way is up.
So the rocking guitars from the days of Tom Petty whip up the energy, with the hammond organ taking us back to the days of Kieth Emerson and The Nice. The lyrics play with a London Vibe created by Ian Drury and The Blockheads but the main ingredient is the new reggae backbeat, provided by master french artist Yaniss Odua. The result is a feet tapping dance track bouncing along to create 3 minutes of magic.
Forward into another place, another space and back into life!
This is an optimistic anthem to get up in the morning..."if you see your face in the mirror, you know that you aint dead". Find someone else who needs love and re-boot your life.
That's it!
John Fitzsimons and Robert Smith met in a South London squat in 1981, when both were beginning their musical journeys. Songwriters, they survived (just) by selling cars, decorating rooms and rewiring houses. It was the days of cassette recording and they used the “new” technology to work together on songs. They both had success with their own projects - Bob with a top 10 hit in Italy and John with London band The Papers. They continued the songwriting co-operation into the 80s and 90s. Moving out of London to the South Coast and the West Country, and sent tapes and cassettes by post to each other as song ideas developed. Some years later they released an album of these songs - still on streaming services entitled “John (The Captain) Fitzsimons and Robert S Smith”. Another solo album of John The Captain Fitzsimons is also available. In 2017 they formed “Solo Noi” to explore writing in the pop/ rock /reggae genres, and released a first album “Uno” in 2019. The second album "Due" was released on October 1st 2021 followed by many singles and this single is the latest. They play regular gigs at The Red deer in Crediton and Uk Festivals
Recent work has been inspired by the current French Reggae artist Yaniss Odua and Danakil, with a more historical influence from London Band Ian Drury and the Blockheads. The underlying reggae beat is derived from a range of tracks from Odua, and added to this is the more rocky approach of The Blockheads. lyrics and vocals derive from a clear London base using a semi poetic approach - as developed by Ian Drury in the late 70s and 80s. Wider influences come from The Police, The Clash and The narrative song constructions of country music - yes even Dolly Parton!
